The 1995 movie, “A Walk in the Clouds,” starring Keanu Reeves and Aitana Sanchez-Gijon is a movie about family roots (the roots of the vine) and what these roots mean to everyone. Set in America, the movie portrays the lives of a pregnant unmarried woman who meets a young WWII veteran on a train, and they quickly fall in love. Keanu Reeves soon learns that the young woman is pregnant and agrees to pretend he is her husband in order to keep the young woman, played by Aitana Sanchez-Gijon, from feeling the wrath and anger of her strict Italian patriarch of a father. However, the father ultimately learns of her pregnancy and, in a fit of rage, he gets drunk and sets fire to the family vineyard. In the end, Keanu Reeves saves the family vineyard by pulling up the burned stump of what remains of the entire vineyard (the life-blood of the family business) that had been brought over from Italy by the family and now thought to be totally destroyed. The roots of the vine are still alive and Keanu becomes the hero who saves the family and the family’s business.
