BLOWING ROCK, NC – Residents of Western North Carolina awoke this morning
to a wintery mix of snow and ice.
This livecam scene was taken at around 11:31am EST from Blowing Rock, NC and shows that snow has finally come to the mountains of Western North Carolina.
Weather forecasts are calling for from 4 to 6 inches of snow below 3500 feet and from 6 inches to over a foot in elevations above 3500 feet.
More photographs will follow this article as the day progresses. I may even venture out and take photographs surrounding my area in Weaverville later on in the day. Keep watching!
The time is now 1:21pm EST in Weaverville, NC. The snow is falling faster and harder than I can recall in recent years. We haven’t had snow like this in quite a while. It’s too bad that it didn’t come on Christmas Day. Perhaps, it will snow again.
Here are some of the latest pictures of the snow as seen from my doorstep.
It’s now 2:54pm EST in Weaverville, NC. The snow is still coming down like mad. It’s very nice to see the snow again after so many years. Here are the latest photos from outside my frontdoor. We easily have 4 to 5 inches of snow on the ground and it’s still snowing hard. Come on snow!
I just added four more pictures at 5:17pm EST to the gallery below. We now have well over 6 inches of snow and trees are starting to snap around us from the heavy snow that continues to fall. Fortunately, the trees are well away from us so I don’t think we’ll have any fall on us. Please watch the pictures in the gallery. You can select FSC for full-screen to see the full images, not just the thumbnails. Select SL for the slideshow and FSC for full-screen. I will continue to update pictures as they develop. It is almost sunset now so the next pictures will probably be tomorrow.
This is the last update for the day. As of 6:07pm EST, it is still snowing like hell and we have accumulated at least 7 to 8 inches of snow by now. The power has been going off intermittently. We hope that it will remain on overnight. This is about the sixth or seventh time power has been lost today. Cell phone service has been terminated on my Verizon phone and our satellite is down due to snow accumulation on the dish. Our Verizon DSL is still up. We have about 100 gallons of propane fuel in our tank in the event we need to light the fireplace in the living room and sleep there. Oh well, we wished for snow…now we have it. Goodnight.
This is the final addition to this post. It is now 4:41pm on the 20th of December 2009. Our power has been out since around 6pm on the 18th and was just restored about three hours ago.
I have added the latest photos surrounding my residence. We have tree damage in the backyard on the deck, but, other than that remained unscathed.

It’s a lot warmer here in sunny San Diego, CA. I may venture out to take pictures later here too. I’ll make sure to wear sunscreen. Sorry, just had to give you a hard time on the weather. I remember the cold winters there….
Unbelievable! So much snow!!!!
